Military and Defense Student Critical Thinking Package
The Military and Defense Student Critical Thinking Package is calibrated for use with undergraduate and graduate level enrollees or applicants to military education programs and colleges. It is a two-part scientifically developed measure of cognitive ability that evaluates the core reasoning skills and the personal attributes associated with successful leadership decision making.
High stakes thought processes are critical in the military. Neither training nor experience can substitute for a lack of core thinking skills and the personal readiness to use them. The ( Military and Defense Critical Thinking Inventory (MDCTI) was developed in response to the growing realization that effective leadership and problem solving required the very skills and attributes that comprise strong critical thinking. It measures those core critical thinking skills, the disciplines of mind and the personal attributes regarded as essential for leadership responsibilities at every level.
Because these skills and mental disciplines can be strengthened and refined with training and practice, the MDCTI can be used in educational programs to aid in evaluating candidates, predicting success, measuring progress, evaluating programs, summarizing gains, and benchmarking.
Mental Disciplines Measured
MDCTI Part 1 assesses ten mental disciplines and attributes relevant to the expression of thought and to one’s style of interaction in decision making and professional contexts:
- Communicative Confidence
- Professional Confidence
- Peer Expression
- Intellectual Integrity
- Mental Focus
- Mental Rigor
- Cognitive Maturity.

Our assessment report package provides the tables and graphics needed to compare your students’ achievement with national norms and to identify individual and group strengths and weaknesses. Validity and reliability
The MDCTI is created based on a growing science of the measurement of human decision-making. The MDCTI was built working with the advice and support of leaders and experts, civilian and military, retired and active, of the US Air Force, US Marine Corps, US Army, US Navy and Joint Special Operations.
