K-2 Reasoning Package


The Grades K-2 Reasoning Package was specifically created to provide an age-appropriate objective assessment of the critical thinking skills and habits of mind of early elementary school students.  The package includes two assessments that, together, provide educators with useful information about whether students are both willing and able to think critically.

EDUCATE INSIGHT Reasoning Skills Grades K-2 is an objective measure of elementary reasoning skills. An age-appropriate children’s story format engages young students in applying their critical thinking skills to multiple-choice questions based on everyday situations.

EDUCATE INSIGHT Thinking Mindset Grades K-2. From the smiling and frowning face response options on the answer sheet to the age-specific items related to children’s everyday experiences, this assessment has been designed for young students.

The development of core critical thinking skills and mindset in K-12 school children is the foundation of student learning, academic progress and future workplace success. However, children do not learn at the same pace and in the same way.  Early identification of thinking weaknesses in students provides opportunities for early intervention and remediation.

Habits of Mind Assessed

EDUCATE INSIGHT Thinking Mindset Grades K-2 is specifically designed to measure the motivation toward problem solving and learning of children in kindergarten through second grade.

Four attribute domains are measured by EDUCATE INSIGHT Thinking Mindset Grades K-2:

  • Learning Orientation
  • Creative Problem Solving
  • Cognitive Integrity.

Data Reported

Early assessment of a student motivation to learn can provide important individual and group diagnostics. EDUCATE INSIGHT delivers results that are locally relevant immediately.

Reports deliver individual and group results in a presentation ready format. Each report includes a wide range of statistical and demographic information about individuals and/or test-taker groups. Group aggregate data, spreadsheets showing each student’s scores, and separate reports for each individual student can be generated. Colorful graphics make it easy to understand how any group of students has performed. Test-taker scores and group summaries are presented with interpretative analysis by Insight Assessment measurement scientists. Numerical and categorical interpretation of strength are reported. A norm-referenced percentile ranking is provided for skills assessments.
