Schools of Allied Health

Training for critical thinking and professional judgment is an explicit objective in allied health programs including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiation Therapy and many others. Employers know that job candidates who can think well can quickly and correctly learn the demands of their particular job.  Published research on the importance of critical thinking in the health sciences places critical thinking at the very heart of diagnostic reasoning and the development of new clinical knowledge.

Success in learning and in professional practice is connected with critical thinking. As critical thinking reasoning skills are incorporated into course work, the data gathered with these tools are not only valuable for admissions purposes; they provide reliable documentation for educational research, accreditation, learning outcomes assessment and program evaluation.  Insight Assessment offers a comprehensive selection of critical test instruments that are calibrated to measure critical thinking thinking skills and dispositions of  specific test takers. Deans of Schools of Allied Health have adopted:

  • The Health Science Reasoning Test (HSRT) is specifically designed for health sciences and health care professional preparation programs. 4-yr undergraduate and graduate school norms are available. Scores on this instrument have been found to predict successful professional licensure and high clinical performance ratings.
  • The California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST) is being used worldwide to provide valid, objective and reliable measures of the core reasoning and critical thinking skill of undergraduate and graduate students. The CCTST has been proven to predict strength in critical thinking in authentic problem situations.
  • The California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI) measures test takers' motivation to apply critical thinking skills in decision making and problem solving. The CCTDI is calibrated for use with the general adult population including workers and working professionals at all levels, and for students in grades 10 and above.

Faculty are also using results to document the critical thinking of prospective or current students. The data gathered with these tools  is being used to support outcomes assessment, program evaluation, applicant advising, accreditation, and curricular research.

Our tests of critical thinking skills rely on case-based scenarios to provide objective, valid and reliable standardized measures of these essential problem solving and decision making skills. Insight Assessment testing tools are cost-effective and can be normed to other programs like yours. Insight Assessment offers you the same tests now in use by government and private employers and search firms. Assessment solutions are available through on-line testing or paper-and-pencil testing.
