California Measure of Mental Motivation (CM3)

CM3

The CM3  measures an individual's motivation toward problem solving and learning. The four levels of the CM3 cover the full spectrum of learners and workers from kindergarten children through college students and adults.

The desire to think and to learn triggers success in school or on the job. Motivated people, young or old, are more likely to engage problems, apply knowledge and achieve results as compared to those who are indifferent about, or averse to, putting forth any real effort.

The CM3 measures the degree to which an individual is cognitively engaged and mentally motivated toward intellectual activities that involve reasoning. Different levels of the CM3  have been calibrated for for people of different ages.

  • Level IA is designed for use with children in Grades K - 2
  • Level IB is designed for use with boys and girls in Grades 3 - 5
  • Level II+ is for older children and adolescents in Grades 6 - 12
  • Level III is for College Students and Adults

The scales of all levels of the CM3 evaluate mental focus, learning orientation, creative problem solving and cognitive integrity. The CM3 Level II+ adds a fifth scale, scholarly rigor.
