FAQ

Many studies cite the CCTST. Is there research on the correlation of the HSRT with student success and professional job performance?

The Health Sciences Reasoning Test is about 15 years younger than the generic form of the CCTST, and this accounts for the lag in the published literature. Independent research studies like the ones you mention are just emerging:  Sullivan-Mann J, Perron CA and Fellner AN (2009). The effects of simulation on nursing students’ critical thinking scores: a quantitative study. Journal of Nurse Midwifery & Women’s Health, 9(2), 111-116.  We are aware of a multi-setting study of nursing education in Amsterdam that uses the HSRT (in Dutch) in process for 2 years, but it is not yet completed. There is also an Arabic translation of the HSRT and a translation validation study underway in South Korea for a new Korean form.  Publication of studies regarding educational outcomes which used the HSRT will most likely emerge in Pharmacy, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, and Nursing where it is the custom to publish research linking critical thinking with the training of clinical judgment. In terms of dissertation studies, there have been at least 12 English language health science dissertations several of them are probably just being completed. We do not routinely track this information, but we are in correspondence with these researchers from time to time.
