How can I use pretest-posttest assessment data?

With a well designed pre-post test program, data can be used to follow a targeted group of students or track the overall growth of cohorts of students to assess the long term and/or short term impact of curriculum and programs. 

• Evaluate curriculum for the achievement of critical thinking as a learning outcome in classroom educational programs and in student life.
  • Measure the impact of a single course, a new pedagogy, a new program of study
    • Test at the beginning and end of designated critical thinking courses to assess the contribution of focused course work in critical thinking.

• Fine tune an existing curriculum or program to meet newly designated learning outcomes
  • Test at the beginning and end of academic programs to assess the overall impact of integrated content in  critical thinking.
  • Test at admission and in the sophomore year to assess the impact of Freshman Studies’ contribution to critical thinking.
• Document progress in attaining student learning goals on accreditation reports with statistical evidence of value added to  groups and individuals.
• Provide data for stakeholders demonstrating that students are developing necessary decision-making skills that will benefit them professionally.
• Demonstrate school commitment to the importance of critical thinking as outcome of program/school
• Deliver tangible evidence of success in personal development programs by offering students a report of their gains over time.
